Stokes County Release Meanings
“Released” describes the end of one agency’s custody, not always a return home. A person may leave the Stokes County Jail after bond, a court order, time served, or completion of a local sentence. The same departure may instead be a transfer to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, another jail, federal custody, or immigration custody. The jail’s release or custody-disposition field is the best local source for that difference.
State prison release has another layer. An NCDAC record may show an Actual Release Date while the person remains an active probationer, parolee, or post-release supervisee. That person is out of prison but not fully discharged from the correctional case. Probation is different because a court may impose it without a prison term. Each statement about Stokes County released inmates should name the agency, event, and date being described.

Stokes County Release Record Fields
A complete county release record ties identity to one custody episode and explains the departure. Request the precise booking record rather than a broad name search. Names can repeat, while a booking number, date of birth, arrest date, and docket narrow the event. The release date and time should be read beside the disposition and any receiving agency.

Citizen Connect may show Bond Total while a person is booked. That amount is not proof that bond was posted, accepted, or followed by release. A court order also may come before administrative checkout. For physical departure, the Stokes County Jail record outranks an inference from either field.
Request Stokes County Release Records
Stokes County publishes no special release-record form, fixed release-log fee, promised response time, or online released-booking archive. Send a narrow, purpose-neutral request to Sheriff Joey Lemons’s administration. The office accepts contact at the official Sheriff page, sheriff@co.stokes.nc.us, 336-593-8787, P.O. Box 118, Danbury, NC 27016, or in person at 1012 North Main Street. Published administrative hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Give the full name, date of birth, booking number if known, and a tight arrest or booking date range.
- Ask for the booking date and time, actual release date and time, custody-disposition description, and receiving agency if transferred.
- Request the booking photograph separately if needed. Ask the custodian to identify any exemption that limits access.
- State that an existing record is requested. Do not ask the office to create a new report or draw a conclusion.
- If denied or narrowed, ask for the legal basis and retain the response with the request.
North Carolina Chapter 132 generally permits inspection and copying at reasonable times, subject to exceptions. Uncertified copies generally cannot cost more than actual reproduction, though extensive clerical or technology work can support a special-service charge. The law calls for a response as promptly as possible but sets no single deadline for every request.
Stokes Release Records and Expunction
Online display time is not the same as legal retention. Stokes Citizen Connect has no public released-booking archive, and the county pages do not publish a retention period for release records. Agency schedules and Chapter 132 govern the source material. A card disappearing from the current roster says only that the interface no longer shows current confinement.
North Carolina uses several category-specific expunction laws. Eligibility turns on the charge, result, age, record, waiting period, and statutory exclusions. Under Article 5 of Chapter 15A, an order can clear public entries and send notice to affected agencies, while some confidential statutory records remain. A no-result after expunction does not prove an event never occurred. The Stokes court file and Sheriff record should be described only as the official sources currently available.
Public removal is not the same as destruction of every confidential or independent copy.
Find Stokes County Released Inmates
Start with the most recent known custodian. For a Stokes jail booking, check Current Confinements to learn whether the person is still listed. Use Admits by Date Range only to confirm that intake occurred. If the name is absent, call the jail at 336-593-8117 and ask separately whether the person is presently confined and what disposition was recorded for the booking.
- Match the full name, date of birth, booking number, arrest date, and docket.
- Check the Stokes court case for a bond order, dismissal, judgment, probation order, sentence change, or other authority.
- Use NCDAC OPI only if state prison or community supervision is plausible. DAC expressly excludes county-jail-only records.
- Check NC SAVAN or VINELink for a current linked status and future custody-change alerts.
- Use BOP or ICE only when a docket, detainer, or receiving-agency record supports federal custody.
- For an older county event, request the Sheriff’s release record and pair it with the court file.
A released person usually leaves the live roster. Absence alone does not distinguish community release from transfer.
Stokes Release Search Has No Feed
As checked July 30, 2026, Stokes Citizen Connect publishes Current Confinements and Admits by Date Range, but no Releases tab. Its “Last 24 hours” and “Last 7 days” choices sit under admissions. They report bookings, not departures. A dormant vendor placeholder does not create an official Stokes release feed.

The lack of a release control is why a jail call and a focused custody-disposition request lead the local fallback.
For a wider same-week check, neither the 24-hour nor the 72-hour page should turn admissions into a substitute release list. The Stokes County 24-Hour Releases page explains the same-day fallback in detail. No official refresh interval, card-removal speed, or archive window has been published.
DAC Stokes Release Record Search
The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction OPI system covers state prison, probation, and parole history back to 1972. It does not cover a Stokes jail-only stay. Search by offender number when possible. Otherwise use the name, sounds-like option, birth date, and identity fields, then open the correct offender record.

DAC also offers an Inmate Release Search with County, Year, Month, and last-name controls. As checked July 30, 2026, it offered 2024 through 2026 and returned Release Date and Type Of Release. A Stokes value in that state tool does not turn the results into Stokes County Jail releases.

Stokes Release Court and Alerts
The North Carolina eCourts Portal and the Stokes County Clerk can show the legal event behind a departure. A dismissal, bond order, time-served judgment, probation sentence, or modification may remain visible after the jail card is gone. Yet an order date is not always the physical checkout time. Match the docket and then obtain the jail’s release timestamp.
NC SAVAN, delivered through VINELink and 1-877-627-2826, covers electronically linked North Carolina jails and Adult Correction. Search the exact person and agency, then register for an offered phone, email, text, or TTY notice. A missing result is not release proof. Magistrate-level bond-outs that were never booked, precinct-only holds, transfers, spelling, and lag can affect visibility.
Transfers require care. A custody-change alert may mean the person left Stokes for DAC. County and DAC identifiers differ, so locate the receiving record and register again under the new identifier. The NC Sex Offender Registry is relevant only to a person with a reportable duty and is not a general release list.
Stokes Released Versus Confined Records
Choose the source by custody layer and the question being answered. One locator cannot cover every Stokes County released inmate.

When Stokes Jail Releases People
The official jail page does not publish routine release hours, a public exit door, weekend or holiday handling, a family waiting area, or a property-return process. Call 336-593-8117 before traveling. Ask whether checkout has finished and whether the recorded departure is a community release or a transfer. Staff may be able to confirm current status even when a formal record request must go through Sheriff administration.
Do not estimate a release time from Bond Total or from the time of a court order. Administrative checks and other holds may remain. The safest statement is the actual release date and time recorded for that booking.
Travel After a Stokes Release
No official post-release ride, pickup, transit plan, or family waiting instruction was identified for the Stokes County Jail. Arrange travel only after the jail confirms the custody outcome and any pickup directions it is willing to provide. A person transferred to another custodian will not use a community pickup plan.
The county navigation phrase “Inmate Transportation Scheduling” concerns transportation of people who remain in custody. It is not a ride-home program. Treating it as one could send a family to the wrong service or place.
Bond Is Not Stokes Release Proof
Citizen Connect booking cards may display Bond Total. The figure is a booking field, not confirmation that funds were posted, accepted, or cleared. It also does not reveal a later hold or transfer. Check the court case for the matching release authority, then ask the jail for the actual time and custody disposition. The two records answer different questions.
Stokes Jail Names and Mail
Stokes County uses two official names for one mapped facility. The department page says Stokes County Jail, while mail instructions use Stokes County Detention Center. Both refer to the county facility at 1013 North Main Street in Danbury. They do not justify two facility pages or two separate custody searches.
Outsourced inmate mail uses a Greensboro post office box and Facility ID 5187. That mailing address is not the jail’s physical release point. Keep the Danbury jail, the Sheriff’s Danbury administrative address, and the Greensboro inmate-mail channel separately labeled.
Older Stokes County Release Records
An older Stokes jail release is less likely to appear in a live status tool. Citizen Connect has no released-booking archive, and NC SAVAN is designed for monitored status and notices rather than decades of release certificates. Begin with the known criminal case and a narrow Sheriff request. Give the docket, full identity, booking number if known, and a tight date range. Ask for the booking and release entry that corresponds to that case, including the custody disposition and actual departure time.
The court file can preserve a dismissal, probation judgment, time-served result, sentence, or later order after the online jail card is gone. A clerk terminal can search criminal cases by defendant name or case number, and the paper file remains with the clerk in the county where the matter was filed. For Stokes matters, use the Stokes County Courthouse at 1012 Main Street in Danbury. The official page lists 336-593-4400 and weekday hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If the court case produced a state prison sentence, add the matched OPI sentence history and DAC release record. Those state sources supplement the county booking record; they do not replace it. An empty roster or SAVAN search has little historical value. Expunction, spelling differences, system scope, and record-schedule changes can also affect public visibility, so describe only what each current source proves.
Federal Stokes Release Record Checks
Use federal sources only when the local disposition, detainer, or court docket points there. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal imprisonment from 1982 forward and can display a past Release Date with RELEASED status. A future date may change. Federal pretrial release is better supported by the court docket because the U.S. Marshals Service has no public one-person release locator.
ICE’s locator can cover current custody and some recent releases, with exclusions and delay. An ICE detainer may request that a jail hold someone up to 48 hours beyond the local release point for transfer. In that event, “left Stokes custody for ICE” is more accurate than “released to the community.”
Stokes County Release Facility
The Facility Map identifies one local detention facility: Stokes County Jail, also called Stokes County Detention Center. The Stokes County Sheriff’s Office operates it at 1013 North Main Street, Danbury, NC 27016. The jail information line is 336-593-8117. No separate municipal lockup, federal or ICE detention center, or current DAC prison was identified within Stokes County in the official sources reviewed.
A person leaving this jail may return to the community or transfer to DAC, another county, federal custody, or immigration custody. The Stokes County Jail release record page gives the facility-specific confirmation path. A state sentence elsewhere remains relevant, but nearby prisons should not be added to the county facility list merely because of distance.
